Digital Commerce 360 reported eCommerce sales level in 2020 would not have been reached until 2022, if it weren't for the pandemic.
The buying habits of consumers have been radically and forever changed. If they weren't buying online before, you can guarantee they'll be buying online now and for years to come.
What powers eCommerce platforms? That's right...data.
But not just random product information that is plopped together. Intentional product data powers sales. So how do you create intentional data? Here are three steps...
1. Who you talking to
Identifying each type of customer you're targeting helps you determine the information you will need. Remember that packaging, pricing, and marketing oriented information will help distributors and retailers to sell your products. Provide features, benefits, and product attributes to help the end consumer compare and weigh their options.
2. Where is everything
It's not at one person's desk. It's not in just one department. Heck, it might not be just within your company. Identify where all the product information that is needed by your target audience is established. Create a process and/or appoint a data wrangler to aggregate and receive updates regularly.
3. What to do with it
Everyone that has a part to play needs visibility and ability to contribute to the total product data picture, because how it is managed can impact sales, more than ever before.
Remember that data management is a process, and the SEMA Data team can help you through all three steps to get your data out the door.
